Each Surcoma rug is handmade in Morocco using natural sheep wool, carefully selected for its softness, texture, and durability.

From the first wool preparation to the final finishing touches, every step is guided by traditional Moroccan craftsmanship and a deep respect for handmade work.

Our rugs are woven by skilled Moroccan artisans using ancestral techniques passed down through generations. Because each piece is made by hand, small variations in size, pattern, or color may appear. These natural differences are not imperfections but part of the rug’s authenticity and unique character.
After weaving, every rug goes through a careful finishing process, including washing, brushing, drying, and final quality control. These steps help reveal the softness of the wool, enhance the texture, and give the rug its beautiful final look.
Surcoma works closely with artisan communities and workshop ateliers across Morocco, including our own looms in Marrakech and partner ateliers in the Atlas Mountains.
By working directly with the weavers and staying closely involved throughout the making process, we aim to support fair, respectful, and transparent craftsmanship.

Care Instructions

To preserve the beauty and softness of your Surcoma rug, we recommend gentle and regular care. Vacuum the rug carefully using a low-suction setting, and avoid rotating brushes, as they can pull on the wool fibers. For best results, vacuum in the direction of the pile.

If practical, let your rug air out outside once a month in natural sunlight for a short period of time. This helps refresh the wool and keep the rug feeling clean. Avoid leaving it under strong direct sun for too long, especially if the rug has deep or colorful tones.
You can also flip the rug over and vacuum the back from time to time. This helps remove dust that may settle underneath and keeps the rug fresher for longer.
If a small stain appears, act quickly by blotting the area with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub, as this can push the stain deeper into the wool. Use a small amount of cold water and mild soap if needed, then gently blot again until the area is clean.
Avoid using strong chemicals, bleach, or excessive water, as they may damage the natural wool and affect the colors. After cleaning, allow the rug to dry naturally in a well-ventilated space.
For deep cleaning or larger stains, we recommend using a professional rug cleaning service, especially one experienced with handmade wool rugs. With proper care, your Moroccan rug will remain beautiful, soft, and full of character for many years.
