Surcoma was born from a deep passion for Moroccan rugs and the communities that bring them to life. Over years of experience, we have built trusted relationships with skilled artisans across Morocco, especially in the Atlas Mountains, where Berber weavers create extraordinary rugs by hand using traditional techniques passed down through generations.
Our Mission
We exist to bridge the gap between skilled Moroccan artisans and design-conscious homes around the world. By working directly with weaving cooperatives and individual artisans, we eliminate middlemen, ensuring fair compensation for makers while offering you authentic, handcrafted pieces at honest prices. Alongside these partnerships, we operate our own workshop in Marrakech, where we support and empower women from our local community.

Authentic Handwoven vs. Machine-Made
The difference is profound. Authentic Moroccan rugs are hand-knotted or hand-woven on traditional looms, a process that can take several weeks to complete. Made from natural wool and often hand-spun or naturally dyed, each rug is unique, with subtle variations that reflect true human craftsmanship. We travel regularly for visiting our friends and cooperatives in rural communities across the Atlas Mountains and beyond. We source both contemporary pieces directly from weavers and carefully selected vintage rugs that we restore and preserve.
