Short answer: no don’t put a Moroccan rug in the dryer. The majority of Moroccan rugs are hand-woven from wool the natural dyes that satisfy to traditional morality. Heat and tumbling can felt fibers, resulting in shrinkage, a faded patina and breakage of the foundation. Here’s how to dry a Moroccan carpet safely after cleaning up a spill or giving it a gentle wash:

1. don’t rub. Dry with white cotton towels, picking up moisture until towel comes up nearly dry.

2. Lay flat to air-dry. Support the entire rug on breathable surfaces; heavy pile rugs should never be hung up as this can stretch them.

3. Circulate air. Point fans or air out windows to accelerate evaporation. If you need to use a heater, place it on low and a few feet away.

4. Protect the pile. While wet, lightly brush the nap in the direction of the weave so that lines and stiffness will be prevented.

5. Protect against sun Direct exposure can cause natural dyes to fade; try a sunny color.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of drying failures. Weekly vacuuming with a suction-only vacuum (no beater bar) and rotate carpet annually to reduce wear and even out mint. Use of rug pad aids in promoting an air flow from the floor through your wool area rug.
